Pitt’s Energy Grid Research and Infrastructure Development (GRID) Institute is a global consortium focused on modernizing the power grid and energy infrastructure in Pittsburgh, the US and ultimately around the world. OEP helped launch the project in 2016 with 11 corporate partners, $5 million in funding 20,000 square feet of laboratory space at the Energy Innovation Center in Pittsburgh’s Hill District. Work underway includes research on microgrids and resilient energy systems, renewable technology integration, storage direct current infrastructure, hybrid AC/DC systems, integrated energy networks
